Final Production Week 7 to 12
During the past two trimesters the Crunch Time team worked tirelessly to create a game. In fact early development started over the summer back in January. Over this time the mechanics went through some pretty drastic overhauls and the end result was a narrative focused adventure game. Some other ideas were a puzzle game based on deciphering a language, a classic Japanese inspired role playing game and more.
This project gave the team some insight into the realities of iterative game design and how much work it requires. On top of that, the project gave each member of the team to work on aspects of game development they otherwise have not previously. These include making animations in unity, writing up a plot/ dialogue for characters, using a kanban board just to name a few. Working with the teachers was overall a very positive experience. They guided the team in the right direction and their input was essential to getting the project to where it ended up. The team also learnt about the depth of game development, and how there is always work to be done.
At this point the Crunch Time project has served its purpose. Its assets will be used in the portfolios of the art team and the engine may even be refined further and used again in a later project by the programmer. The team has worked together fairly well over the past year but sadly the time to go their separate ways is here. Hopefully the lessons team learnt won’t be soon forgotten, because holy shit they learned a lot.
