Crunch Time - Pre Production Develog
Crunch Time in the Pre- Production Stage
There were many positive looks to the game but also issues that were considered during the pre-production stage of when creating Crunch Time.
Pros
- We got the overall look of the game done
- We came up with a solid vertical story line
- Characters were thought out well
- The core mechanics are done
- The main core mechanics base on similar rpg game
Cons
- The perspective of the environments and battles scenes were place in opposite directions
- The main story line was lacking structure
- Characters need to be refined
- Rush certain pieces
- We did not know the genre of the game, so we could not progress as quickly
The problem-solving methods that we applied:
When it comes to problem solving regarding to the game style and the game flow, we would communicate with other team members over discord/messenger to brainstorm solutions. When it came to come up for ideas for the game, we looked at other solutions in other games as examples of paths to take. But the main thing we lack in was to has of face to face meetings, so not having that made working together harder.
Group Collaboration and Communication
How our group collaborated to negotiate solutions to issues to keep within project scope was using trello and git kraken for project management as well as using google drive for source control. When it came to discuss about the game, we used Discord for voice communication, but we also used Facebook messenger for more private communication. We would meet up a day before we had classes to check up things or on any other days, we need to discuss something with each other.
But even with using these different types of communication, we did run into slight misunderstanding when someone was trying to explain something that they want to do for the game but it would get misunderstood, so in the end we would have to come back as a team figure it out together again. Plus, some of us work on different time schedule cause of work or personal stuff, so sometimes not all of us could make it for the meetings.
Overall, this project as a success for a pre-production stage. We will fix our mistakes by being clearer about what we need to do and possibly meeting up more often and discussing more what's needs to be done for the project to move forward.
